Greater Manchester Hazards Centre is the Manchester-based part of the UK Hazards Campaign, and we provide the secretariat for the Hazards Campaign. This campaign has played a central role in Trade Union campaigning for workplace safety for more than 40 years. We are continuing to produce fantastic resources to help those campaigning for Health and Safety in the workplace. We have produced online resources on eliminating toxic substances from the workplace, work-related stress and various safety issues relating to COVID.
We also continue to support families of workers killed at work and support individuals with occupational health and safety concerns.
In September we successfully organised our annual Hazards Conference for Health and Safety Reps and Union members passionate about workplace safety. The Conference had speeches from major figures in the union movement such at Sarah Woolley General Secretary of BFAWU, Shelly Asquith Health, Safety & Wellbeing Officer at the TUC, and Liam O’Brien Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
GMHC runs the North West Safety Reps Network for the North West TUC, with quarterly meetings for any trade union health and safety reps.
GMHC is planning to hold regular ‘Affiliates’ meetings to discuss health and safety at work topics, exchange ideas for organising within the workplace and for affiliates to get involved in the campaigns.
